FCCLA Competes in STAR
Have you ever been really interested in something but never got the chance to see what it’s like? Maybe you wanted to look into a career or do a project with students at an elementary school. These kinds of projects are exactly what STAR does for those in Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition, and it gives members the chance to plan, organize and carry out projects and then compete with other members in the district. While working on competitive events, members finding interesting information, set and achieve goals, all while doing something very productive.
Eleven FCCLA members attended the District 8 STAR competition at Wayne State College on Wednesday, January 18. Over 350 members from nine schools competed in the various contest categories.
Amy Venteicher received a first place gold medal with her presentation and display for Life Event Planning. She qualified for the state STAR competition in Lincoln in April. The team of Danika Wieting and London Sindelar earned a second place gold medal with their project in Focus on Children.
Nicole Sullivan with her Advocacy project, and Melinda Ussery in Recycle and Redesign received top silver medals and placed in the contest. Since theirs were the top medals awarded in their categories, Sullivan and Ussery will also go to state STAR.
Pierce members receiving silver medals were Abbey Buettgenbach- Career Investigation; Alissa Hoffmann and Taylor Aschoff- Community Service Project; Hannah Higgins- Family Challenges and Issues; Laurie Venteicher- Applied Technology, and Martina Wickett- Illustrated Talk.
