FCCLA District Leadership Day

by McKenna Shonka

FCCLA traveled to the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk on Wednesday, October 23, for the District Leadership Conference. The outreach project that the entire district did was with the Animal Shelter Northeast Nebraska. The students also did a service project where they collected items needed at the animal shelter.

To start off the day Pierce FCCLA had an opening ceremony from 9:00 to 9:15. Alexis Schnoor, the Pierce chapter president, gave a speech in front of everyone. Schnoor states, “This year the district conference ran pretty smooth. The Keynote speaker had a powerful message, and the sessions were all very educational. As district president, I was very pleased with the overall turn-out of the conference.”

Next, the students went to the introduction of district officers, and following this from 9:45 to 10:30 the district members and schools had a keynote speaker talk to them.

Pierce students had two different sessions in the morning. These sessions where called breakout sessions. The two sessions were jazzercize and culinary, which were split into 45 minute periods. Sydney Erickson, State FCCLA President, offered a session that was called Stair Steps to Success. This session from Erickson was held during both breakout sessions. After, they had a break and were able to eat lunch. From 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. was the last thing of the day was, which was the closing session.

Angie Brodersen commented, “We had a great day, and the students represented Pierce High very well. Our officer team competed in a knowledgeable competition. Altogether it was a great opportunity for us to grow as a chapter.”
