Pierce Runners Shine at Norfolk Classic

May day brought more than a surprise of treats when the Pierce High athletes competed in the Norfolk Track Classic at Norfolk High School, bringing home multiple pieces of hardware.

In the triple jump, Ryder Theisen placed first with a jump of 43-03.50.

In the 800-meter run, Brenden Bolling placed first with a time of 1:58.70. 

“It’s what I trained for; the excitement of winning was pretty awesome,” Bolling said.

Fellow distance runner Kendall Shada ended in fifth with a time of 10:43.32.

Junior Kylie Dvorak placed first with a distance of 129-03 in discus, while sophomore Jessa Kraft placed third with a distance of 123-06. 

“It was my last throw, so going into my last throw, I was focusing on getting my technique and getting my pull at the end, because I knew if I pull, I could beat the girl who was leading. So then I did, and then once I did the mark, I just knew I got first and was then pretty excited,” Dvorak stated.

In the 4x800 relay, Aislyn Moeller, Abigail Cone, Haley Scholting, and Hadleigh Collison placed second as a team with a time of 10:00.47.

Another second place medal was awarded to Pierce in the 4x400 relay, run by, Moeller, Cone, H. Scholting, and Collison placed second again with a time of 4:10.50.


Pierce Attends Mid-State Conference Track Meet

The Mid-State conference track meet was held in O’Neill on Saturday, May 3, and the Bluejays placed fourth overall with a score of 74 points. 

“I felt like the boys did a great job on Saturday, they competed to what I thought was some of the best of our ability with Brenden Bolling setting a meet record and breaking the school record running the 800-meter. I cannot wait to see what these boys can do at districts,” head coach Les Painter says.

Bolling ran a time of 1:56.86 in the 800-meter run, which earned him first place and set a new school and meet record. Konner Jones placed ninth with a time of 2:15.29. 

In the 400-meter dash, Bolling placed third with a time of 51.88. 

Placing first, Bolling ran a time of 4:44.54 in the 1600-meter run. Kendall Shada had a time of 4:50.35 and placed sixth. 

In the 3200-meter run, Shada placed fourth, running a time of 10:27.31.

Ryder Theisen placed fifth with a time of 15.94 in the 110-meter hurdles. 

Placing second, Theisen ran a time of 42.32 in the 300-meter hurdles. Parker Gaes placed fifth with a time of 43.50.

The 4x100 relay team consisting of Gaes, Gavin Lubischer, Aiden Pospisil, and Jones placed eighth with a time of 47.30.

Gaes, Jones, Hayden Bauer, and Ethan Claussen make up the 4x400 relay team, which placed eighth with a time of 3:55.14.

In discus, Keaton Frazier threw 137-11, placing fourth. Jax Bauer placed sixth with a throw of 133-10.

Jumping 5-10, Gaes placed eighth in high jump. 

Theisen placed second in long jump with a jump of 20-06.25. Lubischer jumped a personal record 20-02.25, earning third place. 

In the triple jump, Theisen placed first, jumping 43-03.5. Lubischer finished seventh with a jump of 39-06.

“I thought I did really great with all my events that I competed in at the meet, and I feel like as a team we did amazing as well but we only got fourth place,” Gaes comments.

The boys track team will be back in action at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational on Thursday, May 8. 


Pierce High Girls Track Team Overpowers Mid-State Conference Meet

The girls track team took over the Mid-State conference meet on Saturday, May 3, in O’Neill and won first place with 100.33 points.

Starting the day early at 10 a.m. the team had three placers in discus. Kylie Dvorak placed first with a throw of 131-11 and setting a personal record, while Jessa Kraft placed second, throwing 122-01, and Raleigh Pfeiffer placed fourth, throwing 112-05. 

Moving on to shot put, Pfeiffer received third place with a throw of 37-00.50, Dvorak placed fourth with a throw of 33-11.5, and Kraft placed eighth throwing a distance of 32-08.50.

“I think everyone competed well, and it was great weather to be conference champions as a team,” Dvorak said.

Concluding field events, Claudia Riggert received fourth in high jump, clearing 4-08, and Grace Suckstorf received sixth, clearing a height of 4-04.

Jogging on to running events, Skylar Scholting placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.31, and also setting a personal record.

In the 4x100 meter relay, consisting of Natalie Kosch, Abigail Cone, Suckstorf, and Naomi Sullivan, the team finished fourth with a time of 54.09.

Jumping on to the 300-meter hurdles, S. Scholting placed fourth with a time of 49.15 and Suckstorf placed eighth with a time of 52.43, both of which were personal bests.

Advancing on to the 400-meter dash, Hadleigh Collison received second running a time of 1:00.72, Moeller received third place running a time of 1:01.74, and Cone placed fifth with a time of 1:03.40.

Passing the baton to the 4x400 meter relay (Moeller, Cone, S. Scholting, and Collison), Pierce received first running a time of 4:09.47.

Moving on to the 800-meter dash, Collison placed first running a time of 2:26.00, and Moeller placed fifth with a time of 2:29.99.

In the 4x800 meter relay (Moeller, Cone, Haley Scholting, and Collison) placed first, finishing with a time of 9:56.65.

Pacing on to the 1600-meter run, Zoey Ebmeier ran a time of 6:05.97 which placed her fifth.

Closing up the day with the 3200-meter run, Ebmeier placed third running a time of 12:35.29, and Isabelle Kuehler ran a time of 14:24.88, which placed her eighth. 

“Saturday was a lot of fun on the girls side, watching our girls go and compete in events that they had never competed in before. For the chance to win a conference title, which worked out, we ended up winning a conference title by one point. I could not be more proud of these girls,” head coach Les Painter said.
