Mid-States Scholastic Contest

By Skylar Scholting

Back at the end of March, numerous students from Pierce competed in the Mid-State scholastic contest, held in conjunction with the Northeast Community College scholastic contest. Students went to NECC in Norfolk to take tests about varying topics from all academic areas.

Champions of their subject areas were Brock Collison in algebra 1, Braxtynne Emerson in parenting/child development, Kaley Johnson in anatomy and physiology, Morgan Moeller in medical terminology, Matthew Steffen in personal finance, Jana Stone in algebra 2, and Brielle Unseld in English composition.

“I love being able to compete academically in our area and show our school’s academic standard,” Unseld states. “The competition gives us a chance to demonstrate Pierce’s success that we work hard for in our classes.”

Stone, also bringing home the gold, says her favorite part of the day was, “Getting to see and meet people from other schools.”

Pierce also had a couple of people who were runners-up. Among those people were Colter Anderson in geometry and Dalton Svoboda in computer literacy.

Those who placed third for Pierce were Braedon Christensen in drafting, Zachary Meier in basic construction, Cameron Pelc in welding, and Morgan Moeller in workplace communication.

Overall, it was a great day. Pierce is very proud to be able to showcase their academic skills, so that way they are able to show that athletics are not the only thing they have success in.
