Final Band Concert of the Year
By Garett Riedel
The Pierce Jr. Sr. High, as well as 5th and 6th grade students, performed in a band concert held on Monday, April 29.
Band director, Michael Sindt states, "I feel this year's final band concert was entertaining for the audience and fun for the students. It was a great way to send off our talented senior class!"
The songs that the fifth graders played were “Popcorn Prelude” by Mike Hannickel and “Power Rock” by arr. Michael Sweeney.
Following the 5th graders was the 6th grade band, and they played “After the Rain” by Matt Neufeld and “Union March” by Mekel Rogers.
After the 6th grade band was the junior high band who played “Krakatoa” by William Owens and “Brass in the Basement” by Larry Neeck.
After the junior high band, the high school band played four songs. They played “Rampage” by Todd Stalter, “Second Suite in F (2nd and 4th Mvts)” by Gustav Holst, and Music from “The Incredibles” by arr. Jay Bocook.
Before the band played their final song Sindt recognized seniors who had been in band six or more semesters with a medal.
Letters and awards were also presented. The Patrick Gilmore award winners were Tate Reinke, Travis Emory, and Kenna Sedlacek. The person who received the John Philip Sousa Award was Braxtynne Emerson.
“I am sad that this is our last performance for concert band in high school. We did exceptionally well and will miss the whole band and Mr. Sindt very much!” Sedlacek states.
The final song that the senior high band played was “Stars and Stripes” by John Philip Sousa.
At the end, all the bands came together to play one final song which was “Feel it Still” by Portugal, the Man/arr Conaway.
The jazz band will have a final concert on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m.
