Pride of the Bluejays “Comes Together” to Perform at Harvest of Harmony
By Sara Thomsen
Early on Saturday, October 7, the Pride of the Bluejays marching band drove to Grand Island to perform at the Harvest of Harmony parade and field show.
The Harvest of Harmony parade started in 1938 to promote goodwill among the small towns in Nebraska. In 1996 the parade broke the Guinness record for the highest number of bands marching in a parade with 130 bands. The Bluejays have not been a part of this parade since 2017.
Band director Mike Sindt comments, “The band performed at a higher level in Grand Island than other performances. I was proud of them for their performance in front of hundreds of people, and I’m excited for the rest of the performances this season.”
The scoring for the high school bands is good, fair, excellent, and superior. Pierce received second place in class B for the parade and a superior for their field show.
“Us as a band played well considering weather conditions early in the morning,” drum major Jackson Zimmerman says. “Our field show was also really good despite the long day we all had.”
The Pride of the Bluejays will have their next show at March over the Meridian in Yankton, South Dakota, on October 14.
