Golf Heads to Wayne

By: Nils Røstad

Friday, September 29, the Pierce girls golf team went to Wayne to compete in a makeup meet from the previous week, and the team as a whole shot for 441 and placed eighth overall.

Veronica Orona had a score of 110, which is a new personal best for her.

Rylee Altwine got a score of 98 and placed 15th. Ashley Wacker had a score of 100. Peyton Wieting had a score of 133, and Brailey Jensen had a score of 172.

Wieting had this to say about her own performance at the golf tournament. “It was not my best performance, there is definitely room for improvement, but the season does come to an end Tuesday the 3rd, but we’ll see how it goes.” Wieting also spoke up about the overall team performance saying, “ It was definitely not our best, the whole team seemed to be down in the dumps, but we’ll see what Tuesday brings and hope we do better.”

Coach Freudenburg said this about the team performance from Friday, “I thought our overall performance was better, individually Veronica Orona had a personal record, so that was good for her. Some of the girls individually had a bit of a down day, but overall as a team we did a lot better than what we did.”

Girls Golf Competes at Conference

By Emma Risinger

On Thursday, September 28, the girls golf team competed in the Mid-State conference competition, hosted by Norfolk Catholic at the Norfolk Country Club.

The team collectively shot 494, and Pierce came in seventh out of 11 teams.

It was a tough day not only for my girls but all the girls who played,” said head coach Jason Freudenburg. “We putted well overall. We need to work on staying out of the trees and penalty areas. When we sure those things up we will be good for districts.”

As for the best individual score, Rylee Altwine placed eighth with a 103.

“I did not play my best,” Altwine remarked.  Her biggest things to work on before districts include: “Probably working on slowing down and staying calm when I make a mistake.”

While the rest of the team did not medal, Ashley Wacker came in 21st and shot a 112, and Veronica Orona ranked 26th by shooting a 122.

Additionally, Peyton Wieting placed 48th with a 157, Brailey Jensen was 49th overall and shot a 162, and Addison Frye finished out in 51st with a 176. Girls golf enters postseason play this week.
