Lady Jays Place Fourth

On Saturday, September 30, Pierce softball competed in the Mid-State conference tournament at Boone Central and placed fourth, after finishing 1-2 at the tournament.
Starting out the day, the Lady Jays took on the O’Neill Eagles and beat them 5-4.
In the first inning, the game was scoreless. Both teams put up two points in the second inning. Pierce put up two more points in the third making the score 4-2. Moving to the fourth inning, O’Neill scored two and Pierce scored one point, allowing Pierce to claim a 5-4 victory.
In the second game, the Lady Jays played the Wayne Blue Devils. Despite their efforts, Pierce lost 15-0.
Pierce faced O’Neill again to fight for third place, but fell 10-4.
In the first three innings, O’Neill scored four points, and Pierce was scoreless. During the fourth inning the Lady Jays put up two points, however, the Eagles scored five. In the fifth and final inning, Pierce scored two more points, but gave up one run, resulting in a 10-4 loss.
The Lady Jays ended their season with a 11-18 record.
Lady Jays Softball Defeated By Polk County

The Lady Jays dropped the loss, 8-0 to Polk County at Polk County’s softball complex on Thursday, September 28.
To start the game, the first inning was not the best for the Lady Jays, as Polk County scored three points while the Lady Jays scored none.
In the second inning, neither team scored.
During the third inning, Polk County scored only one point while the Lady Jays were held scoreless again.
Polk County scored two points in the fourth inning while the Lady Jays scored nothing again.
To end the game, Polk County scored two points again while the Lady Jays scored nothing, making the final score 8-0.
The main pitchers of the game were Peyton Brunkhorst who struck out one batter and Kylie Dvorak who struck out three batters.
“We were kinda slow starting off the game, but we played tough after the first inning. But after we gave them a couple runs, we just couldn’t get hits and couldn’t score runs of our own. The girls played hard. Kylie Dvorak pitched well,” says assistant coach Grant King.
The Lady Jays enter postseason play this week.
