Pierce Softball Claims Hardware in O’Neill

On Saturday, September 16, the Pierce Lady Jays cruised over to O’Neill to compete in a tournament where they claimed third place as a team after facing South Sioux City, Ponca, and Highway 91.
To begin the day, the Lady Jays took on the South Sioux City Cardinals. As a result of their hard work, Pierce dominated the Cardinals 14-1.
The Lady Jays started off strong, scoring 13 runs in the first inning and holding the Cardinals scoreless.
Throughout the game, Hayle DeBoer had four RBIs, as well as a double to lead the Lady Jays. Amber Shefl hit three RBIs. Madelyn Hanson, Cailynn Gardner, and Evelyn Skrdla each claimed one RBI.
DeBoer also stole four bases during the game. Skrdla led the team with three runs scored.
Moving on, Pierce played the Ponca Indians in the second game. Despite their efforts, the Lady Jays fell 11-6. Hanson had three hits. Jessa Kraft and DeBoer had two hits each, while Angeline Skrdla had one hit. Hanson, Kraft, and DeBoer each hit a double for the Lady Jays.
To end the day, the Lady Jays took down Highway 91 with a score of 11-5. Alexis Sporleder, Peyton Brunckhorst, DeBoer, Kylie Dvorak, and Shefl all had zero fielding errors.
E. Skrdla and Sporleder both took charge of the team in hitting, each recording two, while E. Skrdla’s hits were a double and a triple. Kraft also knocked out a double for the Lady Jays.
“The girls played really well all day going 2-1 and finishing in third place. Kylie Dvorak pitched in all three games for us and had an outstanding day,” head coach Mike Emory states. “Everyone had good at bats during the day and our defense was solid in all three games.”
Pierce will host a triangular against Logan View and Ponca on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Pierce Softball Takes a Loss from David City Aquinas

On Thursday, Sept. 9, the Lady Jays were defeated 5-0 by the David City Aquinas Monarchs in a road game.
Team leaders for the Lady Jays are Madelyn Hanson with a .388 batting average, a .557 on base percentage, .571 slugging percentage. Alexis Sporleder is also a team leader with a .934 fielding percentage.
In the game with David City Aquinas, Kylie Dvorak had 81 pitches and 55 strikes; she also faced 27 batters. Jessa Kraft got on base being hit by a pitch.
Coach Grant King says, “The girls are doing a pretty good job, but they also need to work on knowing where they are at in all situations, and laying off of high pitches when batting.”
Kraft, a freshman, says, “We had good hits, but we need to stay in the game because we get so worked up.”
