New Students at PHS

Nils Røstad: The Newest and Most Fun Senior

By Brody Knox

Nils Røstad is an exchange student from Norway and will be spending his time at Pierce Jr/Sr High as a senior.

His favorite class this semester is band. Speaking of band, Røstad is looking forward to performing the Beatles music in marching band.

Two things he misses in Norway are family and friends. While in America, Røstad’s goal for this year is to go back to Norway with grades he needs.

One of his wishes is to get genuine cowboy boots.

According to Røstad, one thing that Norway has that Nebraska does not have is electric cars. “Why Nebraska does not have electric cars is because they are expensive,” states Røstad. He prefers electric vehicles over gas.

Røstad has one sister Agnes who is fifteen years old.

Røstad says that back in Norway, students stay in the classroom and the teachers come to them.

“Your students move to different classrooms” states Røstad.

Nils Røstad’s host parents are Brian and Janneil Knox while his host siblings are Ava and Brody Knox.

New student Tristan Oliveria

By Chase Rasmussen

Pierce High School welcomed new student Tristan Oliveria this August. Tristan is in 11th grade. He moved here from Oklahoma with his brother Tyler and his parents Diana and Drew.

Oliveria had lived in Oklahoma for most of his life so moving to a different state is a big change for him.

Oliveria will not be participating in any extracurricular activities this school year as of now. He spends most of his time studying for school or hanging out with his brother.

When asked about the change from Oklahoma to Pierce, Oliveria states, ”It’s a lot quieter out here, also the students are really kind.”

Welcome to the class of 2025.

Grace Suckstorf: A Rising Star in the Ninth Grade Ranks

By Brody Knox

Grace Suckstorf, a new student from Christ Lutheran in Norfolk, is starting her freshman year at Pierce.

Stephanie and Darin are her parents, while Kennedy, Maddie, and Tyson are her siblings. Her family has two dogs and three cats.

At Pierce, Suckstorf participates in volleyball, track, and basketball. When asked about what she enjoys doing after school, she replies “volleyball because it's fun, [and I have] played since third grade.” Suckstorf plays outside for the freshman volleyball team.

This semester at PHS, her favorite class is strength and fitness.

So far Suckstorf is enjoying Pierce but is missing her friends from Christ Lutheran, after being asked why, she responds, “I enjoyed talking with them.”

Good luck to Suckstorf in her high school career at Pierce.

Pierce High welcomed freshman Brayden Lambrecht who lives with his dad Scott, mom Bridget, sisters Taylor (7) and Raegan (11).  He also has two older siblings Emily (24), and brother Grant (22).

The classes that Lambrecht is taking this semester are strength and fitness split blocked with band, algebra 1, Spanish 1, and computer applications.

He transferred to Pierce High from Zion Lutheran School in Pierce.

When Lambrecht is not at school he enjoys playing sports and staying busy taking care of goats, donkeys, and chickens.

Look for Lambrecht on the football team and the basketball team.

Pierce High School Welcomes New Student/Athlete Payton Montgomery

By Naomi Sullivan

Payton Montgomery is a new student at Pierce High School. Montgomery comes from the Zion Lutheran School.

“It's definitely a change coming up from Zion but I have a ton of friends that have helped me out,” Montgomery states. “It’s way different than Zion because we did not do block scheduling. At Zion we had eight classes for eight hours rather at Pierce [High] we only have four classes.” Montgomery’s extracurricular activities in and out of school are cheerleading and volleyball. She also dances competitively at BXD (Bxtreme Dance studio) in Norfolk.

Montgomery's siblings are Trever and Harper Montgomery. Trever is a senior at Pierce High and Harper is a second grader at Zion Lutheran School.

Welcome Payton Montgomery to PHS.

Pierce High School Introduces a New Freshman to the School

By Alanna McKeown

This year we introduce a lot of new students, and one of them is Mason West, a new ninth grader.

West moved here from Norfolk Public Schools.

A little background on West is that outside of school he likes playing baseball, and when he is playing baseball, he plays center field.

Also West likes science class because he likes Mr. Piper.

West has three siblings Reid (20), Kyle (24), and Devin (29). His parents are Brian and Carrie.

Here at Pierce High, West is a basketball player and a golfer.

When asked how his first few weeks of school are, West says, “Good because I got to spend time with friends.”

Meet MacKenna Wachholtz: An artist and musician

by  Nils Røstad

MacKenna Wachholtz is a 14 year old girl who is a new student here at Pierce High School in ninth grade. She lives in a family of six, she has one older sister who also has a husband and a 5-month-old child. She also has two brothers, one of the brothers is married and has a son, the other brother has a girlfriend.

This year MacKenna will be doing band for her extracurricular activity, she says she enjoys band very much, and looks forward to every band event coming up. Band is the only extracurricular activity she will be doing this year.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone in the band, and I think the band is going to be great this year,” says Wachholtz when asked about what she is looking most forward to about her extracurricular activity.

Even though Wachholtz is Pierce born and raised, she has attended two other schools in the past. The first school she attended was Zion Lutheran School, which is a school that has a mission to follow Christ’s example, and for their students to grow spiritually as they succeed physically, academically and develop socially and emotionally. The other school she went to was Pierce Public School.

When asked about her favorite class here at Pierce so far, she answered art because she loves art, and therefore finds art class the most interesting out of them all. She tells us that she loves especially drawing, but also all the other parts about art.

Wachholtz was questioned about her interests and hobbies, and her answer was pretty obvious when she answered that her hobby was drawing. One thing she also finds interesting is writing poetry.

Pierce High welcomes Wachholtz.
