XC Runs at Boone Central Invite

By Emma Risinger

Cross country competed at the Boone Central Invite beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1.

The boys team placed 5th overall, and the girls were not able to get a placement due to them not having a full team at this meet.

In the boys division, Kendall Shada came in 13th with a time of 18:11.90. Following close behind were Kyle Abler and Elijah Streff. Abler placed 16th overall and clocked in at 18:23.00, and Streff was 21st coming in at 18:40.50.

K. Shada gave his thoughts on his performance and outlook for the rest of the season: “Placing at Boone Central was very difficult, but you know, I had to fight through it. I know as a team we could have done a lot better. But as the season gets going, we’re going to keep working through practice, and I know as a team we are going to get a lot better.”

In addition, Carl Vogt was ranked 50th and timed 20:43.00. Nikolas Efta placed 54th and came in at 20:46.50. Bo Bockelman and Zakary Abler were 70th and 73rd, with times of 21:39.30 and 21:46.70, respectively. Maxwell Weber rounded out in 82nd and timed 22:22.70.

As for the girls, Bailee Thelen placed 38th and had a time of 24:18.50. Taydym Koch, trailing in 40th place, was clocked at 24:27.90. Amelia Ahlers finished 60th at 26:08.3.

Head Coach Mr. Gary Shada remarked on the day’s races when he said, “I was pleased with our performance for a number of runners. It was their first high school race and I thought they handled the situation well. In terms of team [scores], both boys and girls, we have to get healthy, there are a number of injuries. Once we get past that and get some good practice under us we should have a pretty bright outlook.”

Cross country will next run Friday, September 8, at Skyview Lake, hosted by Norfolk Catholic.
