Golfers Battle at West Holt

On Thursday, Aug. 31, the Pierce High girls golf team made their way to West Holt to compete in the meet, and overall the team finished 3rd, shooting 436 as a team.
Rylee Altwine placed fifth with a 96, and just behind her Ashley Wacker hit a 102, placing eighth. Veronica Orona, medaled for the first time this season, by finishing 13th with a 113. Peyton Wieting finished with a 125, and Grace Beemer ended with a 141.
Coach Jason Freudenburg says that he was “happy about how we battled in the wind.”
Freudenburg also says that the team has putted better than they have all year. He goes on to say, “We need to have more consistency. We need to stay at an even keel. Not get too excited when we golf great and not get too upset when we are not golfing well.”
The golf team will make their way to the Norfolk Country Club on Thursday, Sept. 7, to compete in a triangular.
Golf Team Faces O’Neill for a Dual

The girls golf traveled to O’neill, for a dual on Monday, Aug. 28. The Lady Jays shot a 211 as a team, while O’nelll shot a 199.
“We did well but we need to be more consistent with our swings and shots,” says coach JasonFreudenburg.
Rylee Altwine had the top score for the Lady Jays, shooting a 44, and Ashley Wacker scored a 51. Veronica Orona had a personal best record shooting a 53, while Peyton Wieting scored a 63. Rounding out the varsity scores, Grace Behmer shot a 75. In JV, Brailey Jensen had a 76 while Addison Frye shot a 77.
The golf team will host the Pierce Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Evergreen Hills Golf Course in Battle Creek.
