Best Spring Reads

By Natalie Kosch

With the spring season in full swing and with warm weather on the horizon, everyone is in anticipation for summer. There are few things that will slow the time to relax. A new book might be just what people need, and here are just a few ideas.

In the book “One of Us is Lying,” by Karen M. McManus, the slam of lockers, chatter from students, and the ring of the bell all happen in a place where learning and friends collide. No one saw a death in detention to wind up in a place like Bayview High. There are now four suspects each with their own possible motives. In this, who done it presented through the point of view of the supposed suspects, the truth must be revealed. Skylar Scholting, who read this book, comments, “It was a very good book filled with lots of plot twists I wasn’t expecting.”

Raegan Theisen who also read the book says, “I liked the plot of the book, and it kept me interested. I was excited to find out there is a TV series, and I also enjoyed the second and third book.”

Another possible spring read, “Begin Again,” by Emma Lord, heading off to college and dead set on all her plans going right, Andie Rose seems to have everything going right. Then relationships become complicated and her talent of being everyone's problem fixer is not going so well. Will she learn that not having a plan might just be okay and that not knowing what will happen in the future may not be the worst?

A book by Kathleen Glasgow, “You’d be Home Now,” main character Emory is categorized into so many boxes and seen as the golden girl, but when she and her brother get in a wreck and another person is killed, it reveals some family secrets. Emory has always been told who she is supposed to be, but can she go back now. Through this journey will the wreck be able to bring the family closer together or will burn it to the ground?

“Camp Zero,” by Michelle Min Sterling shows secrets to be uncovered and lots to hide. Rose, the main character, goes to an American project called Camp Zero to spy specifically on its architect. What she will find, and will it be more than what she bargained for?

All of these books are great reads to start the spring off and all of them are in the Pierce High Library or will be coming soon to it, so be on the lookout!
