Pierce Bluejays Move onto State after Defeating Columbus Scotus

The Pierce Bluejays hosted the district game to determine if they were going to state. Pierce played against the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks and took a big win with a score of 45-26.

Coach Mike Emory says, “I am very proud of this group for all the work they have put in this year to reach the state tournament. The mental and physical preparation has been there every time we have taken the floor this year.”

In the first quarter of the game, the Bluejays scored 18 points while keeping the Shamrocks down to three points with good defense.

In the second quarter, Pierce was able to score another eight points and only let Columbus Scotus score seven. The half ended with a score of 26-10 in favor of the Jays.

Coming back from halftime and going straight into the third quarter, the Pierce Bluejays carried the ball to score 11 points. The Shamrocks could not get past Pierce’s defense and were only able to score four points.

In the last quarter of the game, the Bluejays were up 37-14. Pierce scored another eight points. Columbus Scotus was able to get past the defense and was able to score 11 points.

The team had a total of two blocks, 12 steals, and 12 rebounds. The team’s two blocks came from Benjamin Brahmer. Leading with steals was Abram Scholting with five, Jacksen Wachholtz, Colby Anderson, and Brahmer all had two steals each, and Deon Watts with one. Leading with the team’s rebounds was Brahmer with seven, Keaton Frazier and Scholting with two, and Wachholtz with one. 

The game ended with a score of 45-26.

Brahmer said, “It feels great to make it down to Lincoln as a senior. We've all been playing basketball with each other for a long time.”

Emory also talked about how the team was preparing for the first game by saying, “The boys are preparing to play as hard as they can for four quarters.”

The Pierce Bluejays will next play in Lincoln on Wednesday, March 8, against Omaha Concordia at 10:45 a.m.
