Pierce Grapples in Tournament at North Bend

Pierce’s wrestlers took a trip down to North Bend on Saturday, December 10, to wrestle in a tournament in which the team placed 6th overall with 99 points.
The Jays had four wrestlers place at the tournament, including Jeremiah Kruntorad who earned a 1st place finish in the 120-pound division. Kruntorad won his first match against Jayden Mccaul from Louisville by decision 9-2. In Kruntorad’s second match, he won by pin over Winside’s Mathew Fredrick. Kruntorad won the 1st place match by pin over Diego Reyes from Johnson County Central.
At 132, Cody Yawn also took 1st place. Yawn took his first match by pin over Wisner-Pilger’s Alex Ausdemore. Yawn took his next match by pin as well over Joel Lemburg from Columbus Lakeview. In the 1st place match, Yawn defeated Logan View’s Armando Valencia by pin.
Placing 2nd for the Jays was Ryder Fuchs at 182. Fuch’s won his first match against Cooper Smith from Tri County by major decision 12-0. Fuchs won his semifinal match against North Bend Central’s Brock Ray by decision 8-2. Fuchs was pinned by Arlington’s Riley Smith in the 1st place match.
Brodey Peters was the last Bluejay to place at the tournament. Peters earned 4th place in the 145-pound division. Peters won his opening match by pin over Alex Luttig from Arlington. Peters won his second match by decision 8-6 over North Bend Central’s Holden Cave. Peters was pinned by Drew Schaad from Columbus Lakeview in the semifinal match. In the consolation semifinal, Peters won by pin over Nolan Miller of Logan View. Peters lost by decision 8-4 to Grant Lindsley from Shelby-Rising City in the 3rd place match.
Also wrestling for the Bluejays was Jayden Sporleder at 106. Sporleder lost his first match by pin to Mason Witt from North Bend Central. Sporleder was also pinned in his loss to Logan View’s Beau Kaup.
At 138, Zane Gleason was pinned by Dylan Schiermeyer of Logan View. Gleason lost his next match as well by pin to Columbus Lakeviews Luis Perez.
Brett Tinker was Pierce’s 152-pound wrestler. Tinker was pinned in his opening match by Schadrick Westerman from North Bend Central. Tinker won his next match by injury default over Louisville's Brady Knott. Tinker was defeated by Kobe Wilkins from Arlington by decision 8-2 in what ended up being Tinker’s last match of the day.
Pierce had Austin Wickett wrestling at 160. Wickett lost his first match by decision 4-1 to Columbus Lakeview’s Jacob Frenzen. Wickett was able defeat his next opponent Trevor Pickard from Freeman by pin. In Wickett’s last match of the day, he was defeated by pin by Louisville's Baylor Meisinger.
Coltin Bauer wrestled for Pierce in the 170-pound division. Bauer defeated Jacob Willis from Shelby-Rising City by pin. Bauer was pinned in the next match by his opponent from Logan View, Eric French. Bauer won his next match by pin against Robbie Lovejoy from Winnebago. In the third consolation round, Bauer was pinned by Columbus Lakeview’s Brook Behlen.
Dylan Kuehler wrestled at 195 for the Bluejays. Kuehler was defeated in his opening match by pin by Christian Donnelly of Arlington. Kuehler was also pinned in his last match by Logan View’s Alex Miller.
At 220, Jacob Kerber lost his first match by pin. He was pinned by Aaron Jasper from Columbus lakeview. Kerber was also pinned in his final match by Niobrara/Verdigre’s Jordan Shakespaere. Pierce also had one unattached wrestler, Kohlton Kleinschmit, at 170. Kleinschmit was pinned in his opening match by his opponent Davy Jones from Louisville. In his last match, Kleinschmit was also pinned by Johnson County Central’s Arturo Hernandez.
Head coach Tyler Legate said, “The team competed hard all day. We lost our last two matches and if we would have own one of them we would have been in the top four. Hopefully this week we will work hard and take another step forward.”
Pierce’s next meet is in Osmond on Saturday, December 17, at the Osmond Invitational.
