A little girls’ cheer camp was held on December 19. Thirty younger girls attended the cheer camp for the day and performed at halftime at the varsity Lady Jays basketball game.
The camp kicked off after the early out on Friday, December 19, and went until 3 p.m. The camp was split into age groups led by some of PHS’s cheerleaders.
Teaching the kindergartners were cheerleaders Hannah Higgins, Alexis Behmer, and Kelsi Svendsen. Tristen Sell and Paige Spieker lead the first graders while second through third graders were taught by Alexa Douglass, Caitlyn Skuodas, Ellie Moeller and Kristina Gutman. Then, cheerleaders Olivia Steffensen, Jessica DeGroff and Brianna Furstenau instructed fourth, fifth and sixth grade girls.
While having fun at the camp the girls in grades kindergarten through sixth learned three cheers including Stomp and Shake It, along with a one-minute dance to Shake it Off by Taylor Swift.
“I think the highlight was performing with the little girls at half time. You could tell the audience really enjoyed it,“ said senior cheerleader Kelsi Svendsen
