Bluejay Golf Competes Strongly in Challenging Golf Match in Albion
By Dayton Watts
The meet was held in Albion, hosted by Boone Central, and Pierce competed against nine other teams.
Leading the way for the Bluejays on Saturday was Brody Scholting, who shot an impressive 87, earning the lowest score for the team on the day. Tyler Schulz followed with a 92, putting together a strong round despite the difficult course setup.
“I feel like, as a team, we are heading in the right direction, but there is plenty of work to be done,” Schulz says.
Brock Collison contributed a respectable 94, while Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels rounded out the team scoring with a 100, battling through the course to finish the meet.
Overall, the team showed determination and steady improvement against solid competition. The team placed seventh.
“We are going to focus on short game and dedicate our time to that,” coach Zach Weber says.
The Bluejays will look to build on this performance as they continue their season and prepare for upcoming competitions.
Pierce Boys Golf at Laurel

Hosted at Laurel, the Pierce boys golf team competed against 15 other teams last Thursday, April 16.
Tyler Schulz did the best for the Bluejays, finishing in 13th place, shooting an 85.
Behind him was Brock Collison, who smacked a 94. Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels ended with a 96, along with Cameron Kuehler shooting a 97.
Lastly, for the Bluejays was Brody Scholting, who finished the day off hitting a 102.
“Building a relationship with the kids has been the best part, even though I can’t help with their swing, helping them mentally and thinking through the game has been very positive,” Caleb Lindgren, a student teacher at Pierce High who helps coach, says.
Collectively as a team, the Bluejays finished in ninth place out of 16 total teams.
The teams that competed at Laurel were Cedar Catholic, Laurel, and their JV, Ponca, Elkhorn Valley, Wayne, Hartington-Newcastle, Crofton, Winnebago, Randolph, Wakefield, Tri County Northeast, Tekamah-Herman, Homer, and Osmond.
Although he is in his first year of golf, Collison, a senior, states, “Being with friends and hanging out with them is the most fun part of golf. Getting to know everyone on the team and golfing with them is also really nice.”
The next meet for the Bluejays will be on April 23 at Lutheran High Northeast.
