Spencer Sindt Earns a Spot in Musical Theater Honor Choir

By Alanna McKeown

For a select group of student singers, earning a place in this year’s Musical Theater Honor Choir meant standing out among some of the best voices in the state.

Students selected for the honor choir, held at Wayne State College, performed a collection of classic American songs, many of which are well known from musical theater productions and popular TV shows.

Getting into the choir was no small task. Students had to complete a competitive audition. Each audition included singing scales and performing a solo piece. Spencer Sindt was the only Pierce High singer who was selected.

“I think I did pretty well,” Sindt stated.

Out of roughly 100 students who auditioned, only about 30 to 40 were selected to join the ensemble.

Concert repertoire included a “La La Land” medley, featuring a new arrangement of “A Lovely Night” by Shelly Armstrong; “Sunday” from “Sunday in the Park with George;” and “Seasons of Love” from “Rent.” In addition, the Wayne State Chamber Choir performed the high-energy, swing-style “As Long As I’m Singing,” from a jukebox musical based on the life of Bobby Darin.

The Musical Theater Honor Choir was held Wednesday, April 15.
