Hannah Marten Enlisted in The Army National Guard as Military Police
By Skyler Stern
Newly enlisted Hannah Marten takes the Oath of Enlistment on March 31, as she swore into the Army National Guard. She enlisted as 31B, which is military police.
One thing she is most nervous about is leaving her family behind for a long period of time as well as the gas chamber she will have to go through at basic training.
Marten is most excited about meeting new people, bettering herself, and getting the chance to drive the police cars in AIT (Advanced Individual Training).
“I have known since my sophomore year that I wanted to go into criminal justice and originally planned on getting a degree first but then I went on a ride along with a state trooper who just so happen was in the army as well and that’s when I learned I didn’t have to get a degree to follow my dreams. The Army can provide me the experience along with the emotional and physical strengths I need to thrive in the criminal justice field. I also have multiple family members that are currently and were in the military. I talked to multiple branches my senior year but the army national guard caught my eye the most,” she states.
During her time with the National Guard, Marten hopes to get a degree in criminal justice. After her contract is up she wants to pursue a state trooper course to become one. She also wants to become a criminal investigator with a family in the near future.
Marten will be leaving September 9 and headed for Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where she will go through basic training and AIT. She will be gone for approximately 30 weeks.
