The speech team wrapped up their year competing in Kearney at the Class B NSAA state tournament on March 28.
Competing at the tournament were juniors Josie Painter in informative speaking and Addison Frye in oral interpretation of humorous prose, and senior Mya Johnson in oral interpretation of serious prose and program oral interpretation (POI). Also, senior Colter Anderson, who was set to compete in extemporaneous speaking, was not able to compete due to illness.
“No matter what happens at the end of the season, going out for the speech team makes you more successful than 99% of the population; you are one step closer to being better prepared as an adult,” head coach Crys Bauermeister stated.
Painter finished in ninth, Frye with 15th, and Johnson with 12th in serious prose and ninth in POI.
“Definitely glad I joined mid-season. It was cool watching everyone else compete, fun to watch them improve every week. I encourage anyone to just give it a shot; you never really know what could happen,” Anderson, who finished as district champion, noted.
