Best vs. Worst Holiday Gifts
By Grace Retzlaff
The holiday season is all about spending time with family, eating a lot of food, and, of course, gift giving.
Opening the presents every year is full of excitement and joy, hoping for everything on a wish list. But sometimes we all have to do the fake smile when a gift is not what we expected.
So, to avoid the fake smile, what are the best and worst gifts to give?
Everyone has that one Christmas gift that is their all time favorite; my personal favorite gift I have received was a towel warmer, I think everyone should own one. The best feeling is getting out of the shower with a nice warm towel.
“My favorite Christmas gift was a slingshot, the real thing,” senior Savannah Beutler says.
“Money is usually my favorite gift so I can pick my own present,” senior Mikenzie Lawrence states. When all else fails and the gift giver has no ideas, money or gift cards are always a good safety option.
Onto some bad ideas, usually the ones with no thought or effort put into them.
“Candy is probably the worst,” senior Elizabeth Furstenau says. Now, this might be a personal dislike depending on how much a person likes candy or not.
This also highlights knowing the person that is being shopped for. Know the target audience and get them something thoughtful that they will appreciate and get use out of.
The importance of making a Christmas list is very crucial. This goes both ways to ask all friends and family what they would like for Christmas. Communicate what is wanted so this way we can all avoid the fake smiles.
