The Pierce girls basketball team swept Osceola 48-29 in their second game of the season at Osceola on Friday, December 5.
In the first quarter, Pierce came out ahead with a score of 15-5.
During the second quarter, Osceola caught up but did not quite get there, ending the quarter with a 19-18 score with Pierce still leading.
In the third quarter, Pierce dominated, gaining 14 more points and defensively holding the Bulldogs to two and putting the score at 33-20 in favor of Pierce.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, Pierce once again came out ahead and scored 15 points, ending the game with a total score of 48-29.
“I thought the varsity had a really good first quarter and a third and fourth quarter. We had a little lapse offensively in the second quarter, but I thought we responded very well. Girls adapted to some things on the move. We kind of picked up full court in the second half to try to pick up the pressure, which helped, helped our offense convert some easy buckets already,” head coach Darin Suckstorf says.
Junior, Nora Harian, scored six points with one offensive rebound and one defensive rebound.
Number four, Emily Endorf, scored five points and achieved one offensive rebound and two defensive rebounds.
Scoring six points, Abigail Cone gained two offensive rebounds and one defensive rebound.
Mya Froehlich scored a total of five points.
Sophomore Aislyn Moeller scored four points and had one offensive rebound and three defensive rebounds.
Number 20, Grace Suckstorf, scored three points and added four offensive rebounds, and three defensive rebounds.
Haley Scholting scored a whopping 12 points with one offensive rebound and five defensive rebounds.
“I feel like our defense was really good, and we did a good job of pressuring the ball and transition points, so getting back on offense and making smart passes,” Scholting says.
Junior Adrienne Riggert scored two points and had one defensive rebound.
Finally, freshman Lydia Cone scored a total of five points with an offensive rebound and two defensive rebounds.

Girls Basketball Starts Season with a Win
By Abbie Cone
Girls basketball started the season 1-0 on Thursday, December 4, with a 47-27 win over the Plainview Pirates.
“I thought defensively, we stuck to the game plan we kept. We did our best to keep #12 in front of us, contained the basketball well, and rebounded well at times. I thought we did a lot of good things offensively. You could tell it was our first game because execution was not where it needed to be, but we played well enough to win,” head coach Darin Suckstorf comments.
The first quarter started slowly offensively for the Bluejays, but eventually Pierce settled in and ended the first quarter 6-1.
The Bluejays went on a large run in the second quarter while holding the Pirates to only five points, ending the half 21-6 with the Bluejays only up by one.
Coming into the third quarter, Pierce only added six points to the score but held Plainview to 10, with Pierce still leading 33-17.
In the fourth quarter, the Bluejays extended their lead and put up 14 more points to Plainview’s 10, ending the game with a Bluejay win, 47-27.
The leading scorer for Pierce was freshman Lydia Cone with 15 points. Nora Herian put up 11, Emily Endorf added seven, Abigail Cone with six, and Adrienne Riggert totalled four points. Rounding out the scoring, Aislyn Moeller and Mya Froehlich each added two points.
A. Cone led in rebounds with 11, and Moeller followed closely with 10. L. Cone added eight, and Herian had seven.
Moeller also had an impressive seven steals, and A. Cone added four.
“We ran transition really well and pushed the ball throughout the game. It was good to get the first-game jitters out of the way, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” L. Cone, a freshman, remarks.
The Bluejays will be in action again at home on Friday against the Boone Central Cardinals.
