Pierce Basketball Takes a Win over Osceola
By Elizabeth Furstenau

The Pierce Bluejays are starting the season off with a bang, winning their second game on Friday, December 5, as they made their way to battle the Osceola Bulldogs. After their win against Plainview, the Bluejays continued their dedication on the court to bring home an outstanding win against the Bulldogs.

“The boys executed the keys of the game well, limiting their best players and converting transition opportunities,” head coach Ryan Ohnouka said. “Our defense was solid from start to finish.”

The Bluejays started the game off in the lead, ending the first quarter with the scoreboard in favor of Pierce, 17-5.

Despite the Bulldog’s efforts, they could not take the lead from the Bluejays, ending the first half 39-8 in favor of the Bluejays.

Starting the second half of the game, the Bluejays continued to fight, ending the third quarter 55-22.

With their hard work, the Bluejays effortlessly pulled through with the win, ending the game 65-29.

Leading the Bluejays with points was Brock Collison with 10 points. Following behind were Keaton Frazier and Jax Bauer, each with nine points. Brody Scholting contributed seven points. Ryder Theisen and Gavin Lubischer each added six points to the scoreboard. Scoring five points each were Tyler Schulz and Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels. Ethan Nordby added four points. Finally, Kendall Shada and Dayton Watts had the final four points with two each.

“The team is starting to come together, and we saw that against Osceola, but there were still some things to improve,” Collison stated. “I played decent, but still could be better on both sides.”

Make sure to catch the Bluejays for their first home game against the Boone Central Cardinals on Friday, December 12.

Pierce Boys Basketball Win Against Plainview
By Charlie Miller

Opening night of the 2026 basketball season started strong for the Bluejays as they pulled in their first win of the season on Thursday, December 4, facing the Plainview Pirates, and coming away with a 62-42 win.

The Bluejays started strong in the first quarter, leading 17-11.

The game went well, but started off a little shaky for us on defense. This is our first game so I know we can only improve from here, and it showed in the second half when we started playing more together and ended up with the win,” senior Jax Bauer said.

Entering the second, the Jays were only able to put up 12 points, while the Pirates added 14 points to their score. The first half ended 28-24, in favor of the Bluejays.

Coming back from halftime, the Bluejays put up a tougher offense and defense and scored 20 points while limiting the Pirates to only six, entering the fourth with a score of 49-31, with the Bluejays still in the lead.

For the fourth, the scores were much closer, with the Bluejays adding only 13 points and the Pirates managing 11 points, ending the game 62-42, adding the first win to the Bluejays' books.

Jax Bauer, returning from an injury where he did not play all last season, led the team in scoring with 23 points, Keaton Fraizer added 11 points, Ryder Theisen contributing eight points, Gavin Lubisher putting up seven points, Brock Collison adding six points, Dayton Watts and Kendall Shada each added three points, and Ethan Nordby added one.

The team overall had 22 defensive rebounds and 11 steals.

The way we came out after halftime helped us secure the win. That was our best quarter, defensively,” first year head coach Ryan Ohnoutka said. “The boys played well together in the second half on offense, looking for each other and sharing the ball. That was a good win to start our season.

Pierce’s next game will be Friday, December 12, at home against Boone Central.
