Pierce Claims Multiple Victories in District LDEs

By Brody Michael Knox

On November 19, FFA chapters from the area competed at Osmond High School for the annual district Leadership Development Events (LDE) competition.

The Pierce FFA chapter represented the school well, advancing four events and nine competitors to state in March. All who earned a placing at districts will advance to state.

The competitors were Bailee Thelen, who received a purple and Josie Painter who earned first in senior prepared public speaking.

“I’m really proud of myself, and I’m really thankful for Mr. Neal, as he helped a lot with the making of that speech, and I’m delighted that Mrs. Nelson was able to help me and get that perfected,” Painter states.

Competing in junior prepared public speaking were Kinley Hilkemann and Eleanor Bauermeister, who earned first and a purple, respectively.

Evelyn Skrdla was second in cooperative speaking, while Payton Montgomery and Kaelyn Halsey competed in natural resources speaking, earning a purple and blue, respectively.

In creed speaking, Joslyn Kraft received a blue.

Thayer Thelen finished second in ag literacy speaking, and Lakin Prince got a blue in discovery speaking.

The ag demonstration team made up of Alexandria Huwalt, Cayden Holan, Dierck White, Clay White, and Kyle Abler finished third.

Lakin Prince, Corbyn Siebrandt, Benjamin Huwaldt, Thayer Thelen, McKaylin Passyka, Quinn Streff, Emmett Hervert, Easton Grothe, Bristol Prince, Zoey Kraft, Grady Unseld, and Trevin Suckstorf were all junior high quiz bowl participants.

“I thought there was gonna be just one big button, but each of us got one. All the questions were different, so we didn't know any of them,” Unseld, a seventh-grade quiz bowl competitor, states.

Look to hear more from the FFA soon, as they will be selling poinsettias in December.
