The Start of the 2025-2026 Girls Wrestling Season

By Chloe Bernhardt

The girls wrestling team officially started practice on Monday, November 17, and this year, there are 14 girls participating.

“This is going to be a great team. Boys and girls are going to be as good as we’ve ever been in Pierce history,” head girls coach, Les Painter states.

The theme for the girls team this year is Deep Water.

The team consists of seniors Candace Miller, Isabelle Kuehler, Lainey Jensen, Sami Painter, and Jayan Sackville. Juniors on the team are Evelyn Skrdla, Reniya Miller, Cailynn Gardner, MaKenna Blecher, Essynce Owens-Webb, and Isabelle Streff. Team sophomores include Alexis Asmus and Melanie Mendez. One lone freshman is on the team, Caybri Monroe.

There are 11 returning letter winners on this year's team.

The coaches are L. Painter, Grant King, Kaylee Benson, Brett Tinker, and Jaxson Daake.

“This year I’m looking forward to meeting my goals I have set for myself and also the excitement to go in front of everyone and wrestle knowing it’s going to be a close match,” Sackville says.

The girls wrestling team will have their first meet on Saturday, December 6, at O’Neill.
