Pierce Journalism Starts YouTube ChannelĀ
By Rylee Altwine
This year the journalism class started a YouTube channel to allow community members a look at what happens inside Pierce Public High School and the channel is titled PHSJournalism.
Every week features something new, most recently were videos involving a day in the life of seniors. Each episode follows a senior around for the day showing their different classes and activities they participate in.
“I think the YouTube channel has given people a better view on what happens in Pierce High on a daily basis, but in a different way than just news stories can show. It is also fun to make the videos, and I enjoy being able to get the footage for the channel,” journalism member Abigail Cone said.
A podcast is released almost every Tuesday and Friday starring Lawson Zierke, Kendall Shada, and Skylar Stern. The podcast highlights sporting activities in Pierce and also news that has taken place all over the work.
“I feel like it would be way more productive for students to watch during school time hours instead of playing video games or watching fortnite,” podcast host Stern states.
The idea of the YouTube channel came up when the journalism class did not think the community knew what was really going on inside the high school. Technology is evolving and less people are reading the newspapers, so what better way to get the community involved than through video broadcasts on a YouTube channel.
Each member of the journalism class is involved in creating content to watch, along the way learning new skills like editing videos, interviewing, and filming.
The YouTube channel is a fun way to allow people to watch instead of read what is going on in the school.
The journalism class encourages everyone to watch, subscribe and even feel free to share video ideas people want to see.
“It’s a great way of connecting the school allowing everyone to interact with each other,” senior Samantha Painter said.
“I feel like it has broadened the class and has given another outlet for showing off school news, and showing more of what happens in Pierce High School,” journalism teacher Crystal Bauermeister said.
