Pierce Dominates Boys Track at the Tom Martin Memorial/Wausa Invite

Pierce High hosted the Tom Martin Memorial/Wausa Invite on Thursday, April 23, and came away as champions in the boys division. 

In total, there were a total of 13 teams that came to the track meet, including Bancroft-Rosalie, Bloomfield, Crofton, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Hartington-Newcastle, Norfolk Catholic, Osmond, Pierce, Stanton, Summerland, Wakefield, Wausa, and Winside. 

Even with the rain, athletes competed through the rain and managed to set some records. 

In the running events, Ryder Theisen got first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.31.  

In the 300-meter hurdles, Theisen again came in first with a time of 43.05, and Parker Gaes came in fourth with a time of 44.06. 

In the 400-meter run, Konnar Jones came in fifth with a time of 55.83, and coming in sixth was Hayden Bauer with a time of 55.87. 

Setting a meet record in the boys 800-meter run Brenden Bolling came in first with a time of 1:58:10. 

Then in the boys 1600-meter, Bolling again got first with a time of 4:34:10. Kendall Shada got fourth in the same race with a time of 4:48:82. 

In the 3200-meter run, Shada came in third with a total time of 10:34:75. 

The 4x400 relay placed fifth with a time of 3:41.98. Runners were Gaes, Jones, Bolling, and Bauer.

“I think the team did alright, I'm happy with what I performed in the mile, but I need to fix my placing and get better and keep practicing and making improvements,” Kendall Shada, a sophomore, stated. 

In the throwing and field events, Keaton Frazier got sixth in discus with a throw of 131-08.

In high jump, Gaes placed fourth, jumping 5-06.

Theisen ended with a 20-04.75, in the long jump, earning yet another first place medal. 

In the triple jump, Theisen got first with a distance of 43-01.50 and teammate Gavin Lubisher jumped 39-09.00, getting third. 

“Mentally, the teams did well with the rain and competing in the events,” Alex Thramer, a track coach from Pierce High, stated.
