The Pierce High quiz bowl team flocked to the annual Northeast Community College Quiz Bowl on Wednesday, April 9.
The team consisted of three juniors, Abigail Cone, Colter Anderson, and Mya Johnson, and the seniors included Nickolas Efta and Aubrey Hanson.
During the event, the team faced a total of five teams, going 3-2 to finish in fourth place out of 28 total teams.
Quiz bowl teams at Northeast Community College consisted of four team members working together to answer the question before the opposing team. The team that answers the toss up question then gets a bonus question where the other team cannot answer.
The team started the day 3-0, facing off against Elgin, followed by West Holt, then Boone Central.
In the semifinal match, the Bluejays fell short to Crofton, moving the team to the losers' side of the bracket after being tied at the end of round and losing in overtime. The Bluejays then fell to Clarkson-Leigh, finishing the day in fourth place.
“We didn’t win like we hoped, but we won a few matches, got out of school, and had fun,” Colter Anderson says.
The team competed a total of five times this year, earning a runner-up medal at the conference quiz bowl tournament. The quiz bowl team is done with competitions for the year.
“Quiz bowl was fun at times, and I’m glad I got to be a part of it throughout high school,” Efta says.
