Success at State FCCLA
By Chloe Bernhardt
The Pierce High FCCLA members ventured to Lincoln for the state FCCLA convention on Sunday, April 6, and stayed until the end on Tuesday, April 8.
The members started with an opening session on Sunday. On Monday the members went to an opportunity fair where there were many different colleges that they could talk to. After the fair they had a knowledge bowl competition. After those events, the members got to walk around downtown Lincoln and enjoy their trip. To end the day Monday, they had a closing session and a fashion show.
On Tuesday, there was a session about confidence. After that they attended a final state leadership conference session where they watched everyone get their awards.
“Overall, it was a good time. Lots of fun and laughter. It was really nice to meet new people and see people get happy about their accomplishments. It was a really good experience,” Sydney Kuper comments.
Throughout the visit to Lincoln, the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) competitors presented their projects to judges.
One of the competitors who presented at the state convention was Aubree Uribe. She did her project in the Fashion Construction category. With her STAR project, she made a sundress that she later used for her senior pictures. After the construction of the dress, Uribe then had to make a board that explained what the dress was for the judges. She took home runner-up gold.
“I basically made a dress for my senior pictures. It took me less than a month for the actual construction of it,” Uribe states.
Other competitors were Cailyn Rampone who received silver in career investigations and Collin Wessendorf in Say Yes to FCS (family and consumer science) Education.
The FCCLA chapter will host their end of the year banquet on Monday, April 28.
