Boys Varsity Golf Heads to Lutheran High Northeast
By Alanna McKeown

On a day where winds topped out at 32 mph and the temperature only made it to 53, the boys golf team again ventured out for another tournament, this time heading to the Norfolk Country Club for the Lutheran High Northeast invite on Thursday, April 18.

I’m happy with how we played. The country club is a very tough course. It was a great experience for us,” head coach Zach Weber says.

Pierce finished fifth as a team. Travis Emory tied for first with an 82. He lost the second playoff hole and ended up second.

Travis Emory states, “It was another tough day to put up a good team score, as the weather

still hasn't cooperated for us this year. I had my best round of the year, but we all know that all of our scores can continue to improve.”

The boys golf team will be in Battle Creek at Evergreen Hill Golf Course on Saturday, April 27, as they host the Pierce golf invitational starting at 9 a.m.

Golfers Battle Weather at Crofton

The Pierce boys golf team–consisting of Travis Emory, Cooper Wachholtz, Champion White, Camden Jansen, and Tyler Schulz–traveled to Crofton to compete in their meet at the Crofton Lakeview Golf Course on Monday, April 15.

With tough weather conditions–30 mile per hour wind–the team still placed well. Emory placed fourth with a score of 86 and Wachholtz also shot an 86 and got fifth place.

Emory says, “We have been continuing to improve in our short game, and this second place finish is a result of that. Also, I’m pretty sure that our entire team is tired of being blown over, so the wind can go away.”

The team, who finished second out of the 11 teams competing, shot a 370.

“I’m proud of the way we battled on a tough course and in tough conditions. Travis put himself in a position to win, and Cooper played consistently well all day,” head coach Zach Weber states.  “As a team, though, we are still leaving an awful lot of shots out there.”

On April 13, the Pierce boys varsity golf team traveled to the Albion Country Club to compete in their third meet of the season and as a whole, the team shot a 361 and placed sixth.

Travis Emory earned sixth place with a score of 82. Also competing for the Bluejays in this meet were Cooper Wachholtz, Champion White, Tyler Schulz, and Camden Jansen.

Head coach Zach Weber says, “We left a lot of shots out on the course. We need to work on being a lot more focused and effective with our scoring shots.”

Wachholtz states, “We definitely have a lot of potential moving forward, especially if we improve around the greens.”
