Pierce Races for the Win at Wayne

Finally heading out for the first track meet of the season, the Pierce boys and girls team faced off against seven schools at the Wayne track meet. 

“I thought our kids competed really hard and I'm very proud of how we did with the conditions of the weather. The girls ended third and the boys ended fourth overall,” head coach Les Painter says.

To start, on the girls side of the meet, in pole vault, placing sixth was Aubrie Zimmerman, who cleared 7-06.00. 

For girls long jump, Nora Herian placed fourth with a jump of 15-07.50.

Competing in shot put, Kylie Dvorak medaled, earning third with a throw of 33-06.50. Coming in fourth place right behind Dvorak, Raleigh Pfeiffer threw 33-03.50. 

Onto discus, Dvorak placed second on a throw of 122-01, in third was Pfeiffer who threw 117-03 and finally for nabbing fifth with a throw of 104-00 was Jessa Kraft. 

Moving onto girls running events, in the 800-meter dash Abigail Cone claimed the first place medal with a final time of 2:40.53 and teammate Haley Scholting placed third overall with a time of 2:42.41.

Running in the 1600-meter run, Josie Painter placed third with a time of 6:10.32.

In the 3200-meter run Josie Painter placed first overall with an ending time of 13:15.95.

Moving to hurdles, in the girls 100-meter hurdles, Skylar Scholting placed fifth with a time of 17.66.

Jumping into the 300-meter hurdles, S. Scholting placed fifth with a time of 54.29.

For girls relay teams, the 4x400 team consisting of S. Scholting, Claudia Riggert, H. Scholting and Cone earned fourth place with a time of 4:39.23.

For the longer distance 4x800 relay, the Pierce team of H. Scholting, Zoey Ebmeier, Maggie Painter and Cone brought home second place medals with a time of 11:03.57.

Onto the freshman girls 1600 sprint medley, Pierce earned third place with an ending time of 5:05.30 with a team consisting of Karina Willits, Grace Suckstorf, MaKenna Blecher and H. Scholting.

Now moving into the boys side of the meet, in triple jump, earning first was Ryder Theisen with a jump of 42-06.00.

In high jump, Ethan Nordby placed sixth with an overall jump of 5-04.00. 

Moving onto boys discus, Keaton Frazier earned third place with a throw of 126-07 and placing sixth was Jax Bauer with a throw of 118-04.

In boys running events, in the 100-meter dash, Keenan Valverde placed fifth with a time of 11.51. 

Also, Valverde competed in the 200-meter dash and earned fifth place with a time of 25.03.

“I believe we all performed really well considering the windy and cold conditions,” Valverde, a senior, says. “It's the first actual meet of the season so a lot of us still need a lot of work. I think we have a lot of potential after seeing everyone perform after this meet. I'm proud of how everyone competed through the rough weather.”

In the 800-meter run, Brenden Bolling grabbed first with a time of 2:06.26. 

Running into the longer distances, in the 1600-meter run, earning first again was Bolling with a time of 4:55.12, while teammate Kendall Shada finished fourth with a time of 5:07.51. 

For the 3200-meter run, Shada placed second with a time of 10:49.97.

Racing into the relays, in the 4x100, the team of Gavin Lubischer, Gavin Sullivan, Benjamin Bolling and Valverde earned fourth place with a time of 46.63.

Running in the 4x400 meter dash the team made up of Valverde, Be. Bolling, Nicholas Efta, and Br. Bolling medaled in fifth with a time of 3:49.52.

For the freshman boys 1600 sprint medley, the team consisting of Aiden Pospisil, Sean Monroe, Nordby and Maxwell Weber placed third overall with a time of 4:38.76.

The next track meet is Tuesday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at Boone Central.
