Pierce High Students Put their Brains to the Test

By Addisyn Ludden

Pierce High took 27 students to the Northeast Community College’s Scholastic Contest on Wednesday, March 27.

The NECC Scholastic Contest is a competition that academically tests students within a variety  of subjects, like English composition, welding, math, accounting, early childhood education, science, and many more. Then after students take their tests, they are graded and the results are announced to everyone.

Senior Brayden Kuper, who has attended every year since his freshman year, comments, “I am very happy with the results as we placed first as a team with three first place individual finishes. We also had many other top three finishes that greatly contributed to our success. Our teachers and faculty greatly contributed to our success.”

To begin, Travis Emory placed first on the chemistry test and intro to wellness/sports/physical education test. Along with him placing first, Aubrey Hanson also finished first on the trigonometry test.

Along with the rest of the results, the following students placed second, including Claudia Riggert in anatomy and physiology, Emma Risinger in vocabulary, Adrienne Riggert in algebra I, and Emily Endorf in biology.

The following students who placed third were Korvin Fritz in welding, Brayden Kuper in accounting I, Brock Collison in geometry, Alexis Sporleder in introduction to psychology, Dierck White in drafting, and finally Maggie Painter in English composition.

“I was really happy with the results, as Pierce kids once again proved the intelligence they have,” Crys Bauermeister, sponsor of the academic team states. “It was nice to be able to compare us to other schools so we can truly see that we are offering strong programs and pushing students to their maximum capabilities.”

With all the points added up, Pierce placed first as an overall team in the Class C division.

Results for the Mid-State conference academic contest will be pulled from this testing day, with the tabulations available at a later date.
