Jazz Band Achieves Third

On Tuesday, March 19, the Pierce High jazz band attended the University of South Dakota (USD) Jazz Festival they were able to achieve third place in the festival.
The songs that the jazz band played were “Crescent River Ramble,” “Star Eyes, Birdland” and “Fast Forward.”
Director Mr. Michael Sindt states, “The jazz bands we compete against at USD are of very high quality, and we held our own quite well as we got many positive comments from the judges.”
The Pierce High jazz members recognized for their solos were Kaylee Steffen, Hadleigh Collison, Travis Emory, Aubrey Hanson, Braxtynne Emerson, Kenna Sedlacek, Tate Reinke, and Spencer Sindt. The jazz band heard other bands from South Dakota, Iowa, and the USD jazz band perform.
“The jazz band was a very good experience, and I learned a lot of things from the other bands,” Mya Johnson, a flute player, states. “Overall it was a great experience.”
The jazz band will be playing at the pre-contest recital on Tuesday, April 16.
