Junior High Quiz Bowl Team Gets Second
By Chloe Bernhardt
On February 27, the Pierce junior high quiz bowl team competed at the ESU 8 in Neligh, and placed second in their round robin and seventh overall.
The team consists of seventh graders Eleanor Bauermister, Lydia Cone, Brody Schotling, and eighth graders Jada Johnson, Kolten Wragge, and Charlie Ottis.
Cone states, “Some of the easy parts of quiz bowl were the history and music questions. I think our team did very well overall.”
The first team the Pierce junior high competed with was Elkhorn Valley, losing with a score of 35-20. The second team the junior high competed against was St. John’s of Battle Creek, winning with a score of 30-5. In the third round the junior high competed against Plainview, beating them 55-5. The junior high ended their day with two wins and one loss, but fought back after their one loss.
After pool play was over, Pierce then lost 25-0 to St. Mary’s of O’Neill.
Johnson comments, “The easiest parts were probably working as a team during bonus questions to figure out answers. The most difficult part was probably trying to make sense of some of the questions. I think our team worked really well with what we knew.”
