Boys Wrestling Take the Win

The Pierce Bluejays boys wrestling team took first place at the home boys dual tournament on Friday night, winning the duals against Cedar Catholic, Fremont, Norris and Wayne.

“We won four duals and they got better throughout the day compared to Thursday and that's all we can ask for,” said head coach Tyler Legate.

The Bluejay’s first dual was against Cedar Catholic, and Pierce won 39-34.

At the 113 weight class, Zakary Abler fell to Maverick Heine.

At 120, Corbin Pfeil won by forfeit. 

Wrestling at 126, Tate Wales fell to Bodie Hochstein. 

For the 132 weight class, Draydin Gossman won by a decision of 12-8 over Brody Kleinschmit.

Elijah Streff (138) fell to Easton Hochstein by a major decision 9-1.

Wrestling at 144, Cole DeBoer fell to Braeden Kleinschmit. 

Brenden Bolling, at 150, pinned Hunter Kuchta.

At 157, Chase Rasmussen fell to Brady Hochstein.

Peyton Kruntorad (165) was unopposed.

At 175, Anthony Castillo fell to Kale Korth.

Taking the victory, Kaiden Fritz pinned Nicholas Coleman in 0:21 for the 190 weight class. 

Christian Nordby (215) and Boston Krueger (285) both won by forfeit. 

Both teams were open at 106.

For the second dual, the Bluejays faced Fremont and won 51-28.

At 113, Abler won by a 6-2 decision over Eduardo Garcia. 

Wales, wrestling at 120, fell to Quinlan Johnson, while Pfeil (126) pinned Jon Archer.

Wrestling 132, Gossman won by forfeit. 

Streff competed and fell to Derrick Alfaro at 138. 

At 144, Bolling pinned Jayden Powell. 

Next up at 150, Rasmussen pinned Bretton Piscitelli. 

Wrestling at 157, Lindstrom pinned Brodie Rich in 0:20. 

For the 165-weight class, Kruntorad pinned Joel Navarro. 

Castillo fell to Michael Dalton for the 175 weight class. 

Weighing in at 190, Fritz pinned Zac Berry.

Nordby fell to Preston Wagner by an 11-3 major decision in the 215 weight class. 

At 285, Krueger pinned Payton Gomez. 

The Jays were open at 106, so they lost by forfeit.

The next dual for the Bluejays was against Norris. 

For the 113 weight class, Abler won by forfeit. 

At 120, Pfeil pinned Colson McNabb.

Wales fell to Benjamin Stanley for the 126 weight class. 

At 132, Gossman pinned Alex Cropp, while at 138, Streff won by forfeit. 

For the 144 class, DeBoer pinned Kadin McNabb.

Bolling, wrestling at 150, pinned Jaxon Clang. 

Weighing at 157, Lindstrom pinned Brigham Schoenbeck. 

For the 165 weight class, Kaiden Ronnfeldt fell to Hunter Jurgens by decision, 6-0. 

Kruntorad (175) pinned Carter Wagner.

At the 190 weight class, Fritz lost to Rylan Schoenbeck in a 5-3 decision. 

In the 215 weight class, Nordby fell to Eric Hall. 

At 285, Krueger pinned Harrison Hudson. 

Again, Pierce was open at 106.

The Bluejays defeated Norris 54-24.

“I think we did pretty well, but we need to work on our shots and shot defense,” said Gossman.  

The final match for the Bluejays was against Wayne. 

Again, Pierce was open at 106.

At the 113 weight class, Abler fell to Ethan Gregory. 

In the results of 120, Wales fell to Garret Schultz. 

Wrestling at 126, Pfeil won by forfeit.

Gossman pinned Jack Elliot in 0:29 at the 132 weight class. 

At 138, Streff fell to Grant Maas.

For the 144 results, Bolling pinned Kasen York.

Rasmussen pinned Taven Ocampo in the 150 weight class. 

Lindstrom (157) pinned Ty Zach. 

At 165, Kruntorad pinned Joseph Woerdemann. 

Wrestling at 175, Castillo won by forfeit.

Fritz, at 190, pinned Alan Ramirez.

At 215, Nordby pinned Hudson Silva. 

For the 285 weight class, Krueger fell to Maddox Ziska in tiebreaker 1, 5-2. 

Pierce won the dual with Wayne, 54-27. 

The next meet for the wrestlers is at Bennington on December 22. The JV starts at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at 5 p.m. 


The Pierce Wrestles Against Elkhorn Valley and O’Neill

Thursday, December 14, the Pierce High boys wrestling team wrestled in two home duals.

Head coach Tyler Legate states, “I thought we came out slow against O’Neill and came out better against Elkhorn Valley.”

Starting off, the Pierce boys wrestled against the O’Neill Eagles and lost 58-21. 

At 106, Ethan Sukup won that match against Pierce because Pierce did not have a wrestler at that wait. 

Wrestling at 113, Dylan Sparks also won that match since Pierce did not have any wrestlers at this weight. 

At 120, Zakary Abler wrestled Reid Laible, but lost by fall.

Corbin Pfeil wrestled and pinned Peyton Yates, taking the win in the 126 weight bracket.

Wrestling at 132 was Draydin Gossman, who won because O’Neill did not have a wrestler at this weight class.

Elijah Streff (138) wrestled against Ashten Burival taking the win by a 6-2 decision.

Cole DeBoer took the win for the 144 weight class because O’Neill was open.

The 150 weight bracket, Brenden Bolling wrestled against John Alden and lost by a major decision of 18-8.

Wrestling the 157 weight class, Chase Rasmussen lost to Pryor Mathews by fall.

At 165, Bryce Lindstrom wrestled Oliver Schluns and lost by fall. 

Peyton Kruntorad, at 175, lost by fall to Grady Welke.

Kaiden Fritz took a loss for the 190 weight bracket against Matias Jimenez by fall.

In the 215 weight bracket, Christian Nordby lost by fall to Tucker Shabram. 

The last weight bracket of the dual against O’Neill was 285. Boston Krueger (285) wrestling against Brody Jakubowski lost by fall.

The last dual of the evening was against Elkhorn Valley, and the Bluejays won 39-31.

At 106, neither of the teams had a wrestler at the weight. 

Wrestling 113, Zakary Abler won due to the other team not having a wrestler at his weight.

For the 120 bracket, Pierce was open. 

Pfeil (126) pinned  A.J. Campen. 

At 132, Gossman wrestled against Mason Nitz, but lost by major decision, 20-9.

Wrestling at 138, Streff lost by fall to Isaac Eckert.

For 144, DeBoer wrestled Mavrick Hagemann, and lost by fall.

Bolling (150) pinned Isaiah Eckert.

Wrestling at 157, Lindstrom lost his match against Mason Schaffer by decision, 4-2.

Kaiden Ronnfeldt wrestled against Trevis Halsey at 165, but lost by fall. 

At 175, Kruntorad pinned Kris Fernau.

Following 175 was 190. Fritz pinned Elijah Kilonzo.

Wrestling for the 215 weight bracket, Christian Nordby won over Paxton Cleveland in a 5-0 decision.

Wrestling 285 was Krueger against Leevi Frey and won in 0:29. 

Junior Peyton Kruntorad said, “We did pretty well. We lost a lot of seniors last year so we have a young team.”

The Jays will be back on the mats at Bennington Friday, December 22.
