The Lady Jays Swing at Districts
By Grace Behmer
The Lady Jays golf team swung away at Wayne on October 4 for district golf.
“I think the day went well, maybe not what we all were hoping for but we fought until the end. Even if we didn’t make it to state as a team, it was a great end to the season. I am truly happy to be a part of the team this year and able to grow my relationships with my teammates and the coaches,” says senior Peyton Wieting.
Sophomore Rylee Altwine was the lone state qualifier for the Lady Jays. The team placed sixth out of 14 teams, shooting a 447. Altwine placed third individually, shooting a 91.
Veronica Orona placed 32nd, shooting a 122, Peyton Wieting ended 38th, shooting a 129 and Grace Behmer finished in 58th, shooting a 161.
“I thought the girls did well. The girls finished sixth as a team out of 14 teams. The conditions on the golf course were good and the greens were playing fast. It was great to see Rylee qualify because she has golfed well all season and was rewarded for the work she has put in this summer and fall during practice,” coach Jason Freudenburg comments. “It was also a sad day to see two seniors end their careers. Ashley and Peyton have battled hard and gave 100% every time they are on the golf course. I really wanted both of them to qualify, but sometimes that is not how it works out. Overall, the team finished the season on a good note and I am very proud of all the girls.”
