Pierce Softball Takes the Loss to NEN Vipers

The Lady Jays were defeated by the NEN Vipers (a softball co-op between Wisner-Pilger and Pender) 9-8 in a softball game on Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Lady Jays only had one triple, which was made by Madelyn Hanson
During the first inning, the Lady Jays held the Vipers scoreless.
In the second inning no one scored again for either team.
During the third inning the Vipers scored five total runs, while the Bluejays only scored four, leaving the score in the third inning 5-4 in favor of the Vipers.
In the fourth inning each team added two additional runs, pushing the score to 7-6 in favor of NEN.
“The girls battled back and made it a great game after getting down 5-0, they never quit which as a coach that's all you can ask for,” remarks coach Michael Emory.
In the fifth inning the Vipers hit two more runners, while the Bluejays added only one run. Continuing the game in the sixth inning, the Vipers were held scoreless, and the Lady Jays added one run, making the score 9-8 in favor of NEN.
Neither team scored in the seventh, leaving the final score 9-8 in favor of the Vipers.
“We played well defensively. I think we just need to get out of our heads when we are up to bat,” states Angeline Skrdla.
Hanson, Hayle DeBoer, Alexis Sporleder all hit doubles for the Lady Jays. DeBoer and Kraft each had two RBIs.
Kylie Dvorak and Hanson were the main pitchers for the Lady Jays.
Pierce Lady Jays Fight Hard Against GACC

The Pierce Lady Jays fought hard, but fell to the Guardian Angels Central Catholic 7-6 on Tuesday, Sept. 5, when they played in West Point at the Timmerman Softball Field.
In the first inning, Evelyn Skrdla hit a single right off the bat, then Jessa Kraft hit it to far center field, allowing the LadyJays to score. With the fight, Pierce did not score the second through the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Madelyn Hanson got a walk, then Hayle DeBoer hit a ground out, but did advance Hanson to second. Alexis Sporleder hit it to center field letting Hanson score. Then at the end of the top of the sixth inning, Angeline Skrdla hit a ground out.
In the final seventh inning, Pierce fought back but just fell short. Cailynn Gardner got a walk. Peyton Brunckhorst then struck out, leaving the Lady Jays with two outs. E. Skrdla hit a single to center field advancing Gardner to second, then Hanson and DeBoer both advanced on a walk, giving Gardner the chance to score, now increasing the score to 7-3 in favor of GACC. Kraft smacked a single, allowing the runners to score. However, the game ended with a strikeout.
“Our goals for the next game are to be ready to play at home because we have been on the road a lot,” says coach Michael Emory. “We also need to be ready to play a good performance, play well more defensively, and cut down on the strikeouts.”
The Lady Jays ended with fight and determination and had a very good game.
