Pierce High Boys Basketball Defeats Battle Creek Braves

On Saturday, January 22, the Pierce High school basketball team made the short trip to Battle Creek to play the Braves, and the Bluejays fought hard to end up on top with the final score of 35-28. 

During a high scoring first quarter of the game, the Bluejays managed to put 13 points on the board. The Braves only managed to score a low four points bringing the score to 13-4, blue jays in the lead.  

In the second quarter the Bluejays and the Braves scored an even six points on each team's score. This brought the score to 19-10, Bluejays still ahead. 

Looking at the third quarter, the Bluejays were able to put 10 more points on the board. The Braves also scored 10 points during third; however, the Bluejays were still on top bringing the score to 29-20.

In the final quarter, the Bluejays only put six points on the board and the Braves managed to score eight. However, after the high scoring lead in the first quarter the Bluejays came out with the win, 35-28. 

Leading in points scored was Benjamin Brahmer with a high total of 18 points during the game. Helping out the team with points were Jacksen Wachholtz with 3, Deon Watts with 8 and Abram Scholting with a total of 6. 

The Bluejays made a total of nine defensive rebounds. Brahmer led again with six rebounds and Colby Anderson, Deon Watts, and Abram Scholting each with one rebound. 

The Bluejays will be back in action on Thursday, January 27, facing off against the Crofton Warriors at home. 


Pierce Bluejays Knocked Down by Norfolk Catholic Knights

On January 18, the Pierce Bluejays took on the Norfolk Catholic Knights in Pierce terrority, but fell short of the win, losing 46-35. 

Taking the lead right away, the Bluejays came out with a solid offense and scored 11 points and were able to hold back the Knights to only scoring six points. 

The second quarter was as strong for the Bluejays but they still added seven points to their score, and kept the Knights to adding only 10, ending the first half 18-16 with the Bluejays in the lead.

Benjamin Brahmer commented, “Our defense was pretty good, and we’ve been getting better at defense so now we just have to start getting good looks offensively and finish as a team.” 

Leading into the third quarter, the Bluejays were not as strong as they were in the first half, coming out and only putting up eight points while the Knights scored 19 points. However the fourth quarter was a closer quarter for the Bluejays as they scored nine points and guarded the Knights to hold their scoring to 11 points, ending the game 46-35 in favor of the Norfolk Catholic Knights.

For the stats of the night, Brahmer led the Bluejays in points scoring 15, Abram Scholting added 13, Deon Watts with five and Colby Anderson had two points. The Bluejays rebounded a total of 17 defensive rebounds for the whole night with Abram Scholting leading the team, grabbing seven.
Head coach Mike Emory adds, “
The boys came out and executed the game plan really well in the first half, shared the ball and got the shots we wanted. The second half has been our problem all year. We have come out the last two games better but still have a ways to go.”

The Bluejays will be playing Thursday, January 27, against the Crofton Warriors in Pierce.


Freshman Bluejays Go Head to Head with Gators

On Monday, January 17, the C team Bluejays went head to head with the Wisner-Pilger Gators, and they conquered the Gators and ended with a score of 45-28. 

The Bluejays started off strong leading 9-6 in the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Bluejays never backed down and ended the first half leading 21-11. The top scorers in the first half were Trevin Larson with five points and Travis Emory with six points. 

Heading into the third quarter, Pierce continued to dominate over the Gators and won that quarter 34-20. 

In the fourth quarter, the Bluejays never gave up and kept adding points to the scoreboard. The Jays scored 24 more points in the second half of the game, which led to their victory. The top scorers for the second half were Gavin Sullivan with seven and Caleb Newman with six.

“It has been fun to play with the boys and see us grow together as a team,” commented sophomore Caleb Newman. 

The C team boys will play again on Saturday, January 29, at Guardian Angels Central Catholic High School.
