NSBA Hosts Virtual Jazz Competition
by Alexis Schnoor
The Pierce jazz band group and director Mike Sindt attended the NSBA jazz competition virtually on Friday, April 9.
Senior Mason Sindelar commented, “I felt pretty confident we were gonna perform well. We have an amazing jazz band with an amazing director, so when the time came to perform I knew we would do well.”
The competition included middle schools, as well as high schools in class AA, class A, and class B. Pierce, along with three other schools, competed in the Class B category. Pierce played 3 songs, “Fancy Pants,” “My Fancy Valentine,” and “Watermelon Man.” The Bluejay band will receive final results at a later date.
Band director Mr. Sindt said, “It went very well. I was a little concerned about how the virtual thing would work, but it worked really well. We got everything set up and had some great clinicians to work with the band. They were impressed with how well we were playing and gave us tips to make us even better.”
Jazz band will perform on May 11 at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
