Speech Starts Off the Season Strong

The Pierce High School Speech varsity team placed second at Pierce’s very own meet on Saturday, January 16. The JV team finished in third place.
Out of the 15 competitors in varsity entertainment, Zachary Price finished in first place, Tanner Kuper placed third, and Alyssa Cederburg got sixth place.
In JV extemporaneous speaking, Nikolas Harvey received first place. Also finishing with high placing in JV persuasive speaking was Emma Risinger who received first place and Keli Shermer earned third place. Larissa Meier placed in second and Shelby White got fifth place in varsity persuasive.
In varsity informative speaking Meier got second place, Brielle Unseld received fifth place, and Chloey Cederburg placed sixth. Addison Sporleder finished sixth in JV informative.
Kaila Speiker placed in fourth place in varsity humorous prose after competing against 16 other speakers.
The JV duets consisting of Ashley Wacker and A. Cederburg placed fifth while Elijah Jones and Noah Jones placed sixth.
The group consisting of Mark Venteicher, Kuper, Shawn Zelmer, Meier, and White placed fifth in oral interpretation of drama.
Head coach Amy Fleer commented, “For our first meet of the year, and the many obstacles we had in front of us, I am so incredibly proud of our team! We finished runner-up against some top teams in our conference and district.”
The speech team will be traveling to compete at Boone Central on Saturday, January 23.
