Bluejay Wrestling

Pierce Competes at Millard South High School

On Saturday, January 9, the Pierce wrestling team traveled to Millard South High School. Pierce was able to go up against some fierce class A opponents.

Blake Bolling (132) placed third. He pinned Columbus’s Jaden McFarland. Bl. Bolling then went to win in round two in an ultimate tiebreaker over Cole Toline from Lincoln East. Bl. Bolling lost by a 27-10 technical fall to Bellevue East’s Garrett Grice. Bl. Bolling won his fourth round by pinning Jasper Sobetski from Creighton Prep. He then lost by a 13-3 major decision to Aiden Robertson from Millard South.

Zander Schweitzer (170) placed third and lost to Caeden Olin of Millard South by fall. He won by a 15-6 major decision over Jacob Odell of Lincoln East. Z. Schweitzer pinned Jalen Vaughn of Creighton Prep and Marshal Chandler from Bellevue East in his third and fourth rounds. Z. Schweitzer lost 11-9 to Blayze Standley of Columbus.

Brock Bolling, wrestling at 126, placed fourth and lost 7-5 to Caydn Kucera of Columbus in his first round. Br. Bolling lost 8-5 to Case Jurgens from Lincoln East. Br. Bolling then won by a 22-5 technical fall in his third round against Millard South’s Marco Robles. He pinned Nate Sanchez of Creighton Prep, but he lost to Conor Knopick of Millard South by pin.

Jayden Coulter (138) placed fourth and pinned Marcus Beltran from Columbus in the first round. Coulter lost to Joel Adams of Millard South and Daniel DeRosier of Bellevue East in his second and third rounds. Coulter won by pin in :39 over Kaleb Vinson of Creighton Prep but lost by a 10-3 decision to Lincoln East’s Nic Swift in his final round

At 160, Ashton Schweitzer finished in fourth place and lost in sudden victory 4-2 to Chase Kammerer of Lincoln East. A. Schweitzer lost to Drew Loosvelt of Columbus in his second round. Schweitzer won rounds three and four against Evan Gann of Bellevue East and Creighton Prep’s Dominic Fate by a 20-6 major decision then 11-4 decision, respectively. He lost to Antrell Taylor of Millard South by technical fall 23-8 in his final round.

Travis Jensen (285) placed in fourth but lost to Nolan Olafson from Millard South. Then lost to Preston Welch of Bellevue East and Brendan McGlothlin of Lincoln East by fall.

Isaiah Adams, wrestling at 120, placed fifth but lost 3-1 to Victor Kaminski of Creighton Prep in his first round. Adams lost by a 21-5 technical fall to Lincoln East’s Keith Smith. In rounds three and four, Adams lost by fall to Blake Cerny of Columbus and Caleb Coyle of Millard South.

At 182, Parker Sackville placed sixth. In his first round he lost by fall to Liam Blaser of Columbus. In round two, Sackville won by 11-7 decision over Noah Fisher of Lincoln East. Rounds three, four, and five saw Sackville losing to Garrett Erickson of Bellevue East, Joey Glogowski of Creighton Prep, and JJ Latenser of Millard South. 

Finally, Colbey Jensen (145) placed sixth. He was pinned in his next rounds by Alex Korte of Columbus, Christian Graser from Creighton Prep, Westin Sherlock of Lincoln East, Truman Koehler of Bellevue East, and Henry Reilly of Millard South.

The Bluejay wrestlers will be back in action on Thursday, January 14, in a dual at Plainview starting at 7 p.m.


Pierce Defeated by Gering

The Bluejays wrestlers stayed on their home mat and battled against Gering on Friday, January 8, and the final score ended with a lost battle of 46-28. 

At 106, Zakary Abler was pinned by Ashton Dane. 

Isaiah Adams fell to Quinton Chavez in the 120 weight class. Also at 120, Kaleb Hessler pinned Ethan Dohmen. 

Brock Bolling lost to Paul Ruff by an 8-0 major decision in the 126 weight class. 

At 132, Blake Bolling pinned Keagan Shifflett. 

Winning with a 15-5 major decision was Jayden Coulter in the 138 weight class over Albert Stone. 

In the 145 weight class, Zach Meier was defeated by Nate Rocheleau. 

At 152, Aiden Gnat lost by fall against Kennan Allen. 

Ashton Schweitzer (160) won with a pin over Carmelo Timblin. 

Zander Schweitzer, at 170, won with a 6-4 decision over Jacob Awizus. Also at 170, Michael Kruntorad won with a fall over Collin Schwartzkopf. 

Parker Sackville, wrestling at 182, won by a 12-10 sudden victory over Andrew Mount. 

Colton Fritz (195) was pinned by Taydon Gorsuch. 

In the 220 weight class, Nick Erickson was pinned by Iziah Blanco. 

At 285, Travis Jensen won an open class on the opposing side. 

Junior Ashton Schweitzer says, “As a team, we did alright; there were a few matches that could have been flipped. We gave up some bonus points that we shouldn't have. Individually I wrestled pretty well ,and we just got to keep working hard in the room with the team.”

The Bluejays compete next at Plainview on Thursday, January 14, at 7 p.m.
