XC Takes on Norfolk Catholic Meet

by Ella Gaes

Pierce High’s cross country team competed in the Norfolk Catholic Meet on Friday, September 11. The boy’s team earned their second straight team championship with a score of 38. The girl’s team did not have enough runners to earn a place but the girls still completed strongly.

Coach Gary Shada said, “All of the runners competed very well, considering the workouts we did during the week leading up to the race.  The one area where there is room for improvement on the boys side is closing the gap between our number two, three and four runners.  We continue to take one meet at a time and focus on what our overall goal is."

Individually for the boys, Mason Sindelar placed second with a time of 16:28.86. Gavin Geneski came in fifth with a time of 17:40.61, and Christopher Efta placed 12th with a time of 18:08.23. Ashton Koch placed 24th with a time of 18:54.65, and Blake Bolling came in 40th with a time of 19:51.82. Lastly for the Pierce boys, Colt Arnold placed 51st with a time of 20:42.61.

For the girl’s individual scores, Alexus Sindelar took home the silver with a time of 20:03.98. Coming in fifth was Callie Arnold, finishing in 21:08. Right behind her, Payten Simmons got sixth with a time of 21:10.56.

The next cross country meet is Friday, September 18, at O’Neill.
