The first game the Lady Jays lost to Blue River (which includes the teams of David City Public, East Butler, and Shelby-Rising City) 9-13 after having the lead the entire game until the last inning. The team had an overall team total of 10 hits.

In the second game the Lady Jays battled against the O’Neill Eagles. The Lady Jays lost 18-4. They had a total of three hits. Elizabeth Hammer had a hit, along with Madelyn Hanson, and Ashton Oestriech.

Sophomore Addison Sporleder said, “Our bats just weren’t there that game, and we didn’t seem to have as much energy.”

During the final game of the day, the Lady Jays took on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. The Lady Jays had a 10-6 tough loss. The team had 9 hits total. Elizabeth Hammer, Addison Sporleder, and Ashton Oestreich with two hits each. Hayle DeBoer, Madelyn Hanson, and Sarah Miller each had one hit as well. The Lady Jays played well on offense, but just fell short four runs.

Coach Marika VonSeggern said, “I would say the two players who stood out were Ashton Oestreich and Elizabeth Hammer. They both did very well batting and came up with some big hits when we needed them. Ashton also played very well defensively. She stepped up and was a leader out on the field. She saved us from some bad decisions defensively by being very vocal.”

The Lady Jays softball team is at O’Neill on Thursday, September 3, and at a tournament at Boone Central on Saturday, September 5.
