All-State Band
by Sarah Fenton
The All-State Band and Choir was held from November 21 to 23. The only person from Pierce to make it into the band was Klarissa Norris. She says, “I worked on my audition since May almost every day until I auditioned in mid-September. It was a lot of work as the audition process is rigorous, over 3,000 musicians from across the state of Nebraska audition and only 19 flutes are chosen and from those 19 only two principle players are chosen; it isn't easy but it is definitely worth it in the end.” Norris worked hard and was able to be one of the two principle players that were chosen from the flute section.
The conductor for the band was Captain Ryan Nowlin. The songs they played in the band were “University of Nebraska March” by John Phillip Sousa, “Fanfare Hymn” and “Finaleby” Peter Boyer, “Song for Silent Voices” by Wayne Oquin, “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” by Fisher Tull, and “Esprit de Corps” by Robert Jager. She also had two solos which were both in the “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm.”
As Norris was talking about All-State band, she says, “Being chosen as an All-Class All-State Musician is the epitome of honors you can earn as a high school musician. Performing on the Lied Center Stage in Lincoln with the very best high school musicians Nebraska has to offer is one of the highlights of my high school career, and I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.”
When Pierce band director Mr. Sindt was asked what he thought about Klarissa making it into All-State he says, “I am very proud to have Klarissa make All State Band. Her consistent effort and talent have allowed her to achieve this goal. It is nice to have her wear the Pierce uniform to represent our school at this prestigious event.”
