First Spring Band Concert Held

By Garett Riedel

The Pierce High held the first of their annual spring 6-12 band concerts on Thursday, March 14. In total, all the bands played 13 songs, which were all directed by band director Michael Sindt.

Sindt states, “The students performed at a very high level, and I am proud of their performance.”

The first band to perform were the sixth grade students. They performed three different songs they had been practicing since the beginning of the semester. The first song was “Minor Rock” by Chuck Elledge, followed by “Gettysburg” by Brian Balmages and ending with “Mechanical Monsters” by Randall Standridge.

Following the 6th grade band were the junior high students, who played three songs as well, including “Pandora” by Randall Standridge followed by “Soldiers Procession and Sword Dance” arranged by Bob Margolis and ending with “Drive” by  Mark Williams.

The jazz band followed, playing “Fast Forward” by Howard Rowe and ending with “Crescent River Ramble” by Erik Morales. Tate Reinke and Spencer Sindt were featured in “Fast Forward” and in the second jazz band song, Kaylee Steffen on tenor saxophone, Hadleigh Collison on piano and Travis Emory on drums were featured.

Jazz and concert band member, Braxtynne Emerson states, “I feel that the concert went very good, and we all stepped up and played parts.”

After the jazz band, the high school band played and they played five songs which were “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Moussorgsky/arr. By Sweeney. Then they played “The Witching Hour” by Randall Standridge, “The Haunted Carousel” by Erika Svanoe, “Colonel Bogey” by Alford/arr. By Andrew Balent, and then finally played “Choose Joy” by  Randall Standridge.

This year the high school band had a video screen to accompany “The Witching Hour” and a background visual to show the changes in the instruments during the final song, “Choose Joy.”

The elementary and junior high bands will be back for their final concert of the year on Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m.
