PHS Students Attend Pierce County Government Day
by Samantha Fischer
The Pierce High school government class headed down to the county courthouse on November 4, to attend the 43rd annual Pierce County Government Day. Government teacher, Brenda Fleecs says, “The offices were very professional, and they were very informational.” Throughout the day, the students got to participate in different offices and saw how they are ran and the responsibilities people would have in that office. The students also got sworn into the office they chose to participate in. A fun bonus that was at County Government Day this year was the Nebraska State Patrol brought a car stimulator about texting and driving and the students got to experience how it was.
When asked about her thoughts on how County Government Day went, senior, Zoe Brenden, said, “I thought it was a good experience to see all the fields, and my favorite part of the day was seeing the jail cells.” The Pierce County Government Day is run by Brett Rix and is sponsored by the American Legion, and their auxiliaries of Plainview, Osmond, and Pierce, along with the Osmond Community Club and the Chamber of Commerce in Pierce and Plainview.
