Creation Stations Create Opportunities

by Graison Pfeiffer

Many opportunities exist for students in both junior and senior high to create and express themselves. One way for them to do this is to work at the “Creation Stations.” Pierce High has several machines including two Vinyl Cutters, two 3-D Printers, the Boss Laser engraver, and a CNC machine. The Vinyl Cutter is able to take a picture you put on the computer and cut it out with micro precision. Then you are able to stick your sticker to any surface you want. Students can also cut out heat transfer vinyl for use on t-shirts or hats. Pierce also has 3-D printers that are able to give you a 3-D image based on the object you choose. Then you have to take off the excess plastic which gives you your final project. Finally, the school has the Boss Laser engraver which will engrave pictures or words into wood, plastic, glass, metal, and other surfaces.

Crys Bauermeister, the high school librarian, created an amazing response to a question about how the students have responded to the Creation Stations by saying, “It creates a positive environment for them to create and grow, and it creates opportunities for them and experiences that they didn’t know existed.”

Seventh-grader Kelly McKeown expressed her favorite part of the Creation Stations by saying, “I like how we can create our own things.”

Pierce High has opened a world of opportunities for their students to express themselves by creating new things.
