Five Cross Country Runners Headed to State

Pierce High’s cross country team stood their ground at their hosted district meet on Thursday, October 17, at the Pierce Community Golf Course. The Pierce varsity boys’ team placed fourth out of 11 teams competing with a final score of 58. The boys had three state qualifiers including Mason Sindelar, Gavin Geneski, and Brock Bolling. Both Alexus Sindelar and Callie Arnold are also heading to state for the girls.
Individually for the boys, Mason Sindelar was the meet runner-up and qualified for state with a time of 16:15.50. M. Sindelar said, “We didn’t do as well as we hoped, but we can’t let the past decide our future.” Gavin Geneski came in seventh also qualifying with a time of 17:37.65. Brock Bolling finished in 13th and qualified with a time of 18:07.13. Bolling said, “We fell short of our season goals, but I’m excited for the state experience!” Blake Bolling placed 36th with a time of 19:28.96. Right behind Bolling, Miles Garcia came in 37th with a time of 19:30.01. Colt Arnold finished 40th with a time of 19:40.10.
For the Pierce girls, both runners qualified for state and finished in the top eight individually. Alexus Sindelar was the meet runner-up finishing with a time of 19:33.95. A. Sindelar said, “I’m really proud of how all of us did. I’m really excited for state. This team is really young, so I’m excited to see what kind of dent the Pierce cross country team can make in the years to come.”
Callie Arnold also placed very well as she came in eighth with a time of 20:38.19. C. Arnold said, “Alexus and I both ran really strong races. I just kept telling myself to relax and stay strong. State is going to be a blast, and I can’t wait.”
The Nebraska State Cross Country Meet will be held on Friday, October 25, in Kearney at the Kearney Country Club.
