by Kiley Bierman

The varsity boys’ golf team took home the gold on Thursday, April 4, at the Plainview Country Club Quadrangular. The team shot a total of 193 to win the nine-hole meet. The quadrangular included teams from Pierce, Plainview, Neligh-Oakdale, and Elkhorn Valley.

With sophomore Chaden Roth leading the way with a winning shot of 41, the Bluejays were able to out-shoot their competitors despite the chilly winds and cool weather.

Throughout the meet, the Jays kept a close lead over their opponents and were able to pull away with a win by out-shooting the closest competing teams of Plainview Pirates by 13 and the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors by 15. Sophomore Hunter Raabe kept up close to the meet leaders with a 47. Other Pierce varsity golfers included junior Reid West with a 51, senior Grant Lambrecht with a 54, and sophomore Shawn Rinkel with a 59.

The Pierce Reserve team received 4th place with sophomore Tyler Race shooting a 48, junior Weston Neitzke shooting a 56, senior Logan Kallhoff and sophomore Trevor Pettitt shooting a 57, and junior Jakob Edins shooting a 60.

Coach Adams said, “I was very happy with how we played. It was the first competition for many players and it showed us what we need to work on.”

The golf team’s next competition is on Thursday, April 11, at Laurel beginning at 10 a.m.
