Wrestlers Finish 3rd at Districts, Qualify 6 for State

 

Six Bluejay wrestlers punched their tickets to the state tournament following a strong team finish at districts on Friday, February 8, and Saturday, February 9, at David City Aquinas.

State qualifiers were Brock Bolling (2nd), Carter Jensen (3rd), Ashton Schweitzer (4th), Brett Tinker (2nd), Ryder Fuchs (1st), and Dylan Kuehler (4th). Individual results were as follows:

At 106, Bolling defeated Mason Kuszak of Centura and DJace Goebel of Syracuse. He lost to Konner Schluckebier of Milford in the finals.

At 113, Isaiah Adams beat Clayton Wedemeyer of Ravenna and fell to Zach Zitek of Aquinas Catholic and Eli Vondra of Milford.

At 120, Ethan Dohmen beat Grant Wells of Lincoln Lutheran and fell to Wyatt Schmit of Humboldt Table Rock Steiner (HTRS) and Casey Kuszak of Centura.

At 126, Jensen beat Noah Monroe of Fillmore Central then lost to Ethan Zegers of Milford in the quarterfinal match. He wrestled back to beat Jack Sokol of Centura, and Quenton Ackley of Ravenna.

At 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost to Jacob Thiem of Arlington but wrestled back to beat William Taylor of HTRS. In the heartbreak round, he lost to Christopher Nickolite of Aquinas Catholic.

At 138, Michael Kruntorad faced Wyatt Smydra of Norfolk Catholic in his first match and lost but came back to beat Sean Long of HTRS and Zachary Beers of Syracuse. In the heartbreak round, he lost to Creighton Redler of Aquinas Catholic.

At 145, Schweitzer beat Mekhi Melgoza of Centura, Francisco Mendez of Norfolk Catholic, and Carter Springer of Milford. He lost to Mason Schleis of Shelby-Rising City and Jesse Drahota of Ravenna.

At 152, Nelson Emerson beat Noah Wattier of Norfolk Catholic, Trace Rowland of Milford, and Brody Dickinson of Freeman. He fell to Alex Luttig of Arlington and Nolan Eller of Aquinas Catholic in the consolation semis.

At 160, Tinker defeated Isaac Voboril of Milford, Colton Hervert of Ravenna, and Garrett Lenners of Freeman. He lost to Jacob Ray of North Bend Central in the finals.

At 170, Aiden Gnat beat Brett Hemminger of Freeman and John Haase of Lincoln Christian. He lost to Isaac Bittner of HTRS and Ben Kment of Aquinas Catholic in the consolation semis.

At 182, Cole Cheney beat Devin Fisher of Ravenna and lost to Kobe Wilkins of Arlington and Jeremy Marrero of Syracuse in the consolation semis.

At 195, Fuchs defeated Travis Warner of Arlington, Joey Otero of Norfolk Catholic, and Nolan Schultz of Aquinas Catholic.

At 220, Kuehler beat Issac Wilcox of Norfolk Catholic and Tanner Kline of Fillmore Central. He lost to Remington Gay of Arlington and Tad Naiberk of Aquinas Catholic in the 3rd place match

At 285, Nick Erickson lost to Riley Moses of Fillmore Central and Zachary Burr of Syracuse.

Coach Tyler Legate said, “I am proud of the fight we had from everyone.”

The fight continues at the state tournament on Thursday, February 14, through Saturday, February 16, in Omaha at the CHI Arena.
